Night Stand

This project has special meaning since Gorden Shelly used his band saw to cut out the back rail and passed away shortly there after. I never saw him after that special time.
It also is the first time I tried to make a night stand. It looked easy trying to make such an item but I went about it all wrong even though it still is used to this day. Instead of making the side fit into the legs I made a box with the front open and then tried to figure out how to attach the legs. My first try resulted in total disaster. Since the legs were cut on a lathe from a 2x2 the round part was easy but the upper square part had to be modified since I already had cut the box. Normally the sides would be fitted into the legs to form the box, but I did not follow that procedure. So I tried to cut out the upper part so the box would fix into the legs but when the dado was used to make the cuts, I bound up and ruined the upper part of one of the legs. So the square parts of the legs were sawed off to equal lengths. Then a 2x2 was carefully cut so the box corners would set in the cut out portion. The legs were then glued to the cut out 2x2's and that's how the night stand leg problem has been solved. Legs did not require any reinforcement. The glued seems to be strong enough to hold the legs in place.
