White Storage Cabinet with Drawers
Due to the problems of termites and ants eating wood products in Louisiana, unless stored in a climate, insect controlled environment, the oak desk that used to be used for storage and as a work top in the shed was removed to the house for fear of insect damage. This left no where to work or store the items that previously were stored in the desk. Therefore the idea of constructing a set of wooden storage drawers was born. The drawers were constructed from 1 inch by 6 inch cedar boards purchased from McCoys in West Monroe. They had the best material at a decent price in town.
The drawers were dovetailed with one half dovetails in the front and back. The reason both ends were done this way was due to the jig purchased from Sears for around 30 dollars would only produce one half dovetails and the jig was used in the dovetail operation. So here is my first adventure in making cedar drawers for a storage chest that was constructed with dovetail joints.
The frame work for the drawers and the drawer slats were cut from scrap oak 1x2's to make 1x1's. The sides, top and back were made from scrap 3/8 inch 3 ply plywood while the bottom was grooved for a 1/4 inch piece hardboard obtained from the scrap pile. The sides extend about 1-1/2 inches above the top piece. The drawer faces in the front were made from the scrap oak 1x1's
